Winter in Europe
Alps, frozen lakes, cities in black and white.
— Text
An honest archive accepts that the European winter has its own tone — and it isn't always kind. This series gathers recent winters: Hallstatt mirrored in its lake with the ochre forest hanging from the mountain, the Austrian valley road in grainy black and white, the Dachstein cut out over a village that smells of chimney, Vienna and its Hotel Sacher as a held postcard, Vall d'Aran framed as if it were a still, New York at Christmas with its skyscrapers and its empty rooms. The B&W is not an effect: it's a decision about temperature. Cold, here, isn't described — it's photographed.
